How to Continue Last Dungeon in Cadence of Hyrule Afte Ryou Ge the Royale Rapier

Welcome to IGN's Walkthrough and Guide for Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer featuring The Legend of Zelda. This section details what to expect in the opening Tutorial of the game.

Please note that much of Cadence of Hyrule is randomized in layout, enemies, and item locations - and this guide will seek to prepare you for what you might encounter, or guide you against certain static areas and boss encounters that remain true in all playthroughs.

Tutorial Opening

As you begin the game, you will be in control of the titular Cadence, who has fallen from her world into a strange new land - only to be met by a fairy, Trill. Trill will introduce you to the land of Hyrule, and you'll be able to get a feel for moving around - as Cadence hops from tile to tile (this will become important soon).

You won't be able to enter the door due to the strange lock, so look up to the right for a Sheikah symbol and hop into the stone to unlock the door.

As you enter the darkened chamber, you'll find a row of tree stumps blocking your path. Instead, hop to the left to find some stairs to a higher level. Hop into a chest to open it, and you'll find a Torch. This item gives you +1 vision radius as long as it is in your inventory, and can also light stumps on fire when you hop into them. However, they don't last forever - so keep an eye on the red durability bar in the top right corner.

Past the stumps, another row of strange arrow tiles block your progress, so instead hop to the right and up a low block and onto the platform above, and hop past the arrow tiles to drop down behind them, and go down the stairs. In this new area, the music has gotten a lot more interesting, and you'll spot a beat meter along the bottom as lines steadily connect at a golden triangle. This means that you now have to move to the beat you hear and are shown, or you'll miss the beat, and be unable to move. Listen carefully to the beat and watch the meter below - if you press in a direction when the lines are anywhere in the triangle or connecting, you'll be within range to move the beat.

As you move up, you'll find Green Slimes blocking the way. They also move to the beat, which is important because enemies will still move even if you miss your beat. Thankfully, Green Slimes have no real attack pattern to speak of, so you can safely approach and hop into them to attack with your equipped weapon. Kill the pair, and try cutting down the bushes and pots in the next room - you'll often find things like Rupees and Hearts in them, just be sure you don't leave yourself open to attack.

In the room to the left, you'll go up against your first real moving enemy, a Blue Slime. Stand still for a moment and watch him at work: Pause, bounce down, pause, bounce up - that's his attack pattern. It's fairly simple, but you can expect later enemies to move much more aggressively.

When you attack this Blue Slime by hopping in from the side to damage it, you'll find that it has more than one heart, so you'll need to jump into it twice to defeat it. The next room has a Green Bokoblin. This enemy will actually aggressively pursue you, but like the Slime, it has a simple pattern: raise hands, jump, raise hands, jump. Let him come to you, and the moment he lands - but before he can raise his hands and jump again, jump into him first.

Continue on to the right until you reach a new weapon. The Broadsword still deals only 1 damage, but it can hit 3 targets in front of you, as opposed to just a single space. Be sure to look out for weapons you can swap between after the tutorial - sometimes having the right weapon for the job can make all the difference.

Go ahead and practice using the Broadsword in the room to the north. Try getting the Bokoblins to hop near the Blue Slime, and slice multiple opponents at once - just don't leave yourself open, as in the time it takes you to slice at one target and leave you open to the other enemy if you aren't also hitting them too.

In the next room you'll find an item as equally important as your torch - a Shovel. The Shovel allows you to dig through certain weak walls to uncover secrets and dig new paths - but like the Torch, using it will slowly use up its durability, so always be on the lookout to get a new one in your adventures.

Finally, at the top of the crypt you'll find a portal to two iconic characters - Link and Zelda. You're given the choice to awaken only one, but it's worth noting that over the course of the Story Mode, you'll be able to awaken both. For now though, pick your character to begin their intro:

  • Link's Home

or

  • Zelda's Room

Up Next: Link's House
